First single “Morning Light” (Out on Feb 12), an alternative hymn : what should become will become “Morning Light” is an ode to brevity. It was written during a trying time, and engages with longing and love, faith
and doubt, clarity and ambivalence, finding rest in the tension of it all. It’s heavy-hearted and melancholic, but doesn’t lose sight of hope. Perhaps this is what an alternative hymn might sound like?
The single “Morning Light” is also expressed in a beautiful dance film by Gustaf Järver; it was shot in the woods close to Järver’s house, featuring Joel as a lone dancer in a fragmented world of light.

Swedish indie singer-songwriter Joel Gabrielsson debuts with the haunting EP Citadel.
There is something otherworldly and stirring about certain art that reveals our frailty. At once we can be swept up in awe or dread at the grandeur of the mystery surrounding us, or we can find ourselves shrugging it off to keep us from remembering our own impermanence. Even the most commonplace experience, like a break-up, can have us scrambling for an existential haven.
With “Citadel”, Joel Gabrielsson debuts in his own name, and tries to cut to the core of what it means to be human. The EP has an open and scaled back quality to it : acoustic guitar with tactile instrumentation and vocals
accompanied by an evocative backdrop, perhaps bringing to mind artists like Thom Yorke, Jónsi or Sufjan Stevens.
This debut takes him into new, yet familiar territory; both the songcraft and production signal authenticity. The EP has been produced by artist/producer David Åhlén and engineered by Manne Von Ahn Öberg, famous for his work in the 90’s with artists like Stina Nordenstam & label Atrium (Warner music).
